Salford borders the River Irwell to the West of Manchester.

The M602 motorway enters Salford from Eccles to the West whilst the A580 east Lancashire Road finishes at Salford entering Pendlebury. The area has excellent rail links and the Metro link runs from Eccles, through Salford, Salford Quays and into Manchester City centre.
Major landmarks include the Grade I listed Ordsall Hall, the Lowry hotel – Manchester’s first five star hotel named after L.S Lowry the famous painter. It is home to Coronation Street and Salford Lads Club that gained international fame in 1986 when the pop band The Smiths posed in front of it.
Salford Red Devils is the City’s rugby league club and have been based in Salford since 1873. They participate in the European Super league and ground share the AJ Bell stadium with Sale Sharks. The City of Salford is one of the largest settlements in the UK without a professional football team, non-league Salford City are the city’s only representatives.
